THANKS TO THE GOVERNMENT OF SIERRA LEONE AND THE ELECTIONS COMMISSION for the accreditation granted us to monitor and observe the country’s high -stakes presidential, parliamentary and council elections today.
We deployed 55 elections observers in all throughout the country. We have just completed another successful mission , consistent with the goals and aspirations of WIMAGE.
After the elections, we will present our report in accordance with international best practices and will also ( As was done in Kenya and Nigeria ) explore the opportunity to engage stakeholders, civil society, the media and the ECSL to look at the elections, how it went and what the country could have done right and better. This will then hopefully facilitate the formulation of an action plan within 90 days through collaboration with our international partners , civil society , women’s groups , the media and the relevant government agencies ,leading to the the setting up the Wimage GLOBAL AGENDAS ON WOMEN ( GAOW PROJECT ) designed to enhance more women’s participation in the next electoral cycle.
The thrust of the GAOW project is to advocate for the participation of more women in governance and national leadership.
