About ActionAid

ActionAid is an international charity working with poor women and girls in multiple countries. Founded in 1972, the organization has grown immensely and has many priorities including women’s rights and education. It strives to combat the effects of poverty by calling for action against the systemic issues that create it.
Programs in Brazil, one of its regional focuses, includes the campaign for women’s rights. This campaign sets out to stifle the epidemic of sexual exploitation of young girls. ActionAid sponsored empowerment classes enable girls to learn about the rights they have and how they can protect themselves.
Brazil, South America’s largest country, illustrates many common problems on the continent. While the problems in Brazil also occur worldwide, Brazil has an important leadership role, especially due to these women-focused NGOs, and will continue to play a large part in global equality in the coming years.Visit website »
